The number one rule to keep in mind when attempting to clear a green pool is that you must allow time for the chemicals and filtration system to work. Try not to compare your pool with others that may be taking on this task, as filtering systems, pool configurations, and environmental factors vary from one yard to the next. With perseverance and patience, the job can be accomplished.
Step 1 – Remove most of the large debris from the pool floor with a large leaf net. This process will stir up the water initially, making it cloudy, but the stirred up debris will settle within a few hours. This step should not be skipped or postponed, as the large debris such as leaves, tend to “eat up” the chlorine, wasting time and money in your process.
Step 2 – Superchlorinate or “Shock” the pool. This is another important step that must be carried out properly or can cause a delay in the clearing of the pool. You can’t over-shock the pool, but you can “under-shock” the pool. Be sure to use the proper amount of liquid or granular chlorine according to your pool gallonage. Step 3 – Run your filter 24/7 – NON-STOP, without stirring up the bottom of the pool until the water clears! Green or cloudy water will quickly clog a filter; therefore you may have to backwash your filter many times a day until the pool clears. The more you run your pump, and the more you backwash when needed, the faster the pool will clear up.
Step 4 – If you follow these instructions and your pool does not clear up within 4 or 5 days, your filter may not be functioning properly. If this is the case, have the filter system checked out by a professional. The pool will NEVER clear up if the filter is not working properly!
Step 5 – Once the water clears up, you will probably see debris on the pool floor. If there is only a small amount of debris present, you may want to vacuum it up using your own pool vacuum system. If there is a lot of debris on the pool floor, you should have the pool professionally Power Vacuumed
